Vitamins are essential micronutrients with a wide range of physiological effects. ABSTRACT
Vitamins are essential micronutrients with a wide range of physiological effects. They play a key role in many biological pathways related to sepsis, including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects, protein and hormone synthesis, energy production and gene transcription regulation. In addition, plasma vitamin deficiency is common during sepsis and septic shock. Vitamin adjuvant therapy has been associated with improved outcomes of sepsis and septic shock in several adult and pediatric studies. This review discusses the vitamins most commonly associated with sepsis or septic shock.
